Next up for our Peter Rabbit Play Set is a miniature felt radish tutorial- perfect to fill Mr McGregor’s garden. (You can also find a tutorial for a mini carrot here.)
My goal is to create a play veggie garden where you can ‘plant’ and ‘pick’ the veggies over and over again. When I picture Peter in the garden, chomping on treats I always envision a some lettuce and a raddish, so I knew I’d have to figure out how to make one of these guys. Plus they are just so darn cute in a miniature scale, how could you resist?
When I was designing the felt vegetables for our miniature play garden, I wanted something that was cute and simple to make. These guys are put together with wool felt, so there are new raw edges to deal with. To make our miniature felt radish, I started with a simple wool felt ball, which made the shape easy to create. I did use a needle felting needle to add the white tip of the radish, which is the only real ‘specialty’ tool, but I feel like the added detail is worth the effort.
To make your own Mini Felt Radish, you’ll need:
Materials
- Green wool felt
- 1 cm wool felt ball in a deep red or maroon
- white wool roving
- needle felting needle
- hot glue gun
- scissors
