I’m excited to spotlight our new Mini Coat Sewing Pattern today. Designed to fit dolls ranging from 5″-7″, this coat is perfect for adding a little extra something to your dolls. It can work with a variety of miniature dolls, but was specficially designed to fit on our Mini Animal Family dolls and our Mini Elf Family Dolls.
This pattern was just what I needed to make Peter for the Peter Rabbit playset that I’m working on. I’ll be sewing up a brown version for Benjamin Button soon.
It’s a pretty simple pattern that can be sewn up with or without the collar. I made the sleeves and body of the jacket all one piece to help eliminate working with teeny tiny pieces.
One of the best things about this pattern is that it is completely reversible. That means you can create two completely different looks with just one coat. I love making reversible doll clothes- I don’t have the time or energy to create a ton of clothes, so it’s nice to have options with the ones I do make.
To make this coat, you’ll want to use a lightweight woven material. I prefer quilting cotton or lightweight linen. I love finding two coordinating fabrics so the lining can add a pop of interest to the coat.
This coat has a snap closure. (You could also use velcro, which is a little easier for little fingers.) If you want to add some additional detail, you can also use miniature decorative buttons. I used 4mm buttons that I found in the scrapbooking section of my local craft store, but I found some similar ones on Amazon, here.
