Why Can’t A Person with CFS Drive?

May 10, 2014

why can't someone with cfs drive

A common symptom of ME/CFS is Brain Fog.  It’s nothing like anything I’d ever experienced before I got sick, so it’s hard to describe it.  It’s like whatever is connecting my brain to the rest of my body gets detached.  My reflexes get slow, and my mind gets confused.

No huge deal when I’m at home watching a movie.  But it’s a pretty big deal if I’m driving down the middle of a crowded highway.  I’d say it’s pretty comparable to drunk driving.  For me, brain fog comes with a ‘crash’, so I can drive as long as I stay within my daily energy allotment.  That translates to about a 10 minute drive or less.  Anything longer, and I run the risk of becoming a Brain Fog Driver (or basically a drunk driver) while I’m driving the car.
