October has been a much more exciting month around here than September was. We’re finally feeling like we’re unpacked enough to live comfortably out of our new apartment. (I still have some mystery items that seem to have vanished… How do you lose a rotary cutter mat? I guess I’ll tell you when I figure out where it’s been hiding…) Doug’s pneumonia is {almost} gone. (Did I tell you he was in the hospital with pneumonia? Yeah, that wasn’t a fun thing to do right after a big move!) I feel like I’m finally getting back into a schedule where I can put time into patterns again. Hooray for that! Life is starting to look pretty good from over here.
To top things off, we’re living in the same state as my sister- something I haven’t done since I was 7. It’s so much fun I can hardly stand it! Last week we did a little Witches Tea with my sister’s family and my mom. I’m in love with the magical side of Halloween (not a huge fan of the blood and gore part- but to each his own I guess) and had a blast thinking up a ‘Hocus Pocus’ style table spread.
We had Halloween shaped pasta with a pumpkin pasta sauce (so good!), egg salad sandwiches with olive spiders, eyeball jello, ghost shaped bananas and spider web cupcakes. And of course everyone had to come as a witch. (I think our neighbor across the hall thought we were crazy. But that’s ok.) My niece made her own witches hat, modeled after the sorting hat in Harry Potter. (She’s in the middle in the photo above) Isn’t she awesome? That is some pure 11 year old talent, if you ask me.
Now that it’s over I’m kind of feeling like Halloween has come and gone. With no trick or treaters in the house, I’ve got no costumes in the making. And our apartment requires you to buzz into each floor, so I’m thinking we won’t be handing out a ton of candy on the 31st. We’ll have to find something exciting to do together for Halloween- any suggestions?
