In August I made up a little Etsy site to see if I could get a little free business exposure. It’s become quite a fun little hobby! I’m only selling my patterns as PDFs, so orders are simple to fill (just an email, not a whole package to put together) and without shipping expenses my patterns have been open to anyone in the world. Well, anyone who speaks English anyway!
So far we’ve sold a few in the US, but the orders I’m most proud of are the ones that have gone to Australia, the UK, Canada and Ireland! It’s so exciting to think that my little creations are inhabiting the whole world 🙂 I just hope the instructions make sense! (with every sale I ask people to tell me any problems they have and no one has written with any, so that’s a good sign, right?!)
When I first started making patterns I purposefully made them in different styles and categories (cute kid things, modern home decor, traditional holiday stuff etc) to see which was the most popular. By far and away my most popular is the Delightful Dinos Pattern and so I’ve taken a cue from my audience and created two more patterns in the same style. Here they are!
Harry the Horse & Pearly the Pegasus
and
Dalton the Dragon
Aren’t they adorable? (don’t you love how I’m shamelessly in love with my own work? Maybe I should work on that whole modesty quality a little more…) I think the horse is my favorite, but they’re all so cute I honestly line them up in our room so I can see them all the time. (Have I mentioned that Doug is a very, very nice man?)
These guys have been up on Etsy for about a week and have been ‘favorited’ a ton, so hopefully we’ll get them selling too!
I just can’t wait to get to the stage where we have a good quantity of patterns that have been tested by sewers enough that I can feel comfortable getting into the world of ‘whole sale’ marketing. How in the world do you even do that? I seriously need to make friends with some quilt shop owners… 🙂
