I can never post what I’m working on for Mother’s Day because, well, my mom reads this blog. But here’s a little something I made up last year for my mom and mom-in-law.
The idea is really simple. I got these fun leather ‘book’ things from the scrapbooking section of Robert’s when it was going out of business (have I mentioned that I hate this economy!) but you could use anything really, card stock to make a card, press board to make something a little more sturdy, etc. For the heart I just did a little quilt block (it can be whatever kind of block you know how to make)
and then traced a heart shaped cookie cutter onto the paper side of double sided interfacing.
Then I ironed the interfacing onto the back of my quilt block, let it cool, cut out the heart along the line I’d traced, pealed off the paper and ironed it onto the final sheet the sheet of paper. I’d never done the interfacing on paper, but it seemed to work great. I suppose you could just use glue, but I like the interfacing because it creates a permanent bond with the fabric which stops it from fraying. Then I put the names of each child, grandchild etc that made up that motherly patchwork all around the heart. If you’re adventurous you could even put one name on each different fabric in your quilt block. But I wasn’t adventurous 🙂
The second side has the words in the printable below, and then just a smaller version of the heart made with the scraps of fabric from the first heart. Pretty easy! You can download the PDF of the words here. And, just for your viewing pleasure, here it is in another color combo- I tried to make them to fit into the different houses they were going to-
