How to Make a Mini Felt Flowering Bush

July 28, 2023

I’ve really loved having a few different miniature felt plant options in my toolbelt as I make mini projects and today I wanted to talk about how to make this miniature felt flowering bush. It’s a great beginner felt project and a great addition to mini projects like dollhouses and suitcase play sets. And while I designed it thinking of mini projects, now that I have one, I keep thinking it would make an adorable mini topiary in my own house, I just need to find the perfect mini pot for it!

Here’s what you’ll need as you learn how to make a miniature felt flowering bush.

Materials

  • Wool felt in green (leaves) and two colors for the flowers. I used white and yellow.
  • A 1″ styrofoam or felt ball cut in half for the base.
  • The free pattern available here
  • Hot glue gun
  • scissors

Make Your Miniature Felt Flowering Bush

1. Cutting out materials for your miniature felt flowering bush

Once you’ve downloaded your free pattern, you’ll need to cut out your wool felt. You’ll cut 11 Leaves shapes out of the green. 8 Flower shapes out of yellow and 8 Flower shapes out of white.

2. Gluing Your Flowers for your miniature bush

To make a flower, take one white Flower shape and add a strip of glue along the inside cut out. Then bunch the flower up to make it more 3D.

Now you can add glue to a yellow Flower, and glue it around the scrunched up white piece.

Last of all, add a circle of glue on the inside of the Leaves and layer it behind the white and yellow shapes, scrunching as you go to give the flower shape.

Repeat this process until you have 8 flowers.

3. Make Extra Leaves

Take your remaining Leaves shapes and cut them in two. One half will have 3 leaves, the other will have two. Add some hot glue to the base of the leaves and scrunch them to give them shape.

4. Glue it all Together

Now you have all your flowers and extra leaves made, it’s time to glue them onto the base. Take the ball you’ve cut in half and set it on the table with the flat side down. Glue Flowers evenly spaced on the ball and add the extra leaves to fill in any empty spaces.

Once the glue is dry, your miniature felt flowering bush is complete and ready to decorate whatever miniature corner you please.
