Lately I’ve been dreaming of new seam rippers. Not that I… ahem… use one all that often or anything… 🙂 A couple years back I bought myself a pretty wooden handled Clover one which I love. My problem is that I tend to tear out seams while I sit and chat, or watch a show, which means my good seam ripper is never in my sewing room (or…anywhere that can be easily found…) when I need it and I’m stuck with the teeny tiny one that came with my machine with a tip I broke off years ago.
I’m thinking I need a new one that stays by my machine. Who knew there were so many different kinds?! Here are a few on my Drool List.
1.Clover Seam Ripper This one is much like the one I’ve purchased and really enjoy. It’s got a nice, small tip that gets into stitches easily and having a more substantial handle feels nice in my gigantic hands. (I’m 5’10” and have the enormous hands to prove it)
2.Seam Fix – Seam Ripper And Thread Remover I’ve seen these at my local quilt shop and have been very tempted. Along with a nice seam ripper, it’s got a rubber end that you rub against the ‘ripped’ seam and the rubber pulls out all the threads. This would be especially nice when I’m ripping out mistakes from my embroidery machine.
3.Wahl Electric Seam Ripper Wait, what?! They have a seam ripping machine!? I’m very intrigued, especially for when I’m ripping out embroidery. It kinda looks like Doug’s beard trimmer… I might just have to try that out. (Don’t tell Doug!)
4.Havel’s Ultra Pro Seam Ripper Seam rippers with replaceable blades make a lot of sense to me. I never thought about it until now, but my old seam has done a lot of ripping and it probably super dull. I love that with this ripper, you can replace the blade as needed. The reviews say it’s super sharp, which makes it easier to cut your fabric, so you’d probably only want to use this one for a seam that you can open up as you tear it out.
5.NN Surgical Seam Ripper A couple years back I got myself an x-acto knife with surgical steel blade. I LOVE it! It’s so much sharper than anything else. So, the idea of a surgical seam ripper sounds pretty enticing.
6.Gingher Seam Ripper The product designer in me looks at this one and purrs. It’s so beautiful! And with the ability to replace blades (shown above the seam ripper), it seems quite functional too. I think I’m in love.
