I don’t know about you, but my sewing closet is FULL. It doesn’t help that any time I do a new projects I feel like I need to invest in a new tool. The ones that kill me the most are specialty quilting rulers that only work for one kind of block (which I will probably only make in one, maybe two quilts my whole life)… and cost like $20.
That’s why I was excited to see the Brilliant Bindings quilting ruler. It really is a good, multipurpose tool. (Hooray for actually reusing something for different projects!) First off, the angled edge of the ruler helps you get your binding just right. Just for that, it’s a tool I would pull out over and over again. But then what’s fun is that they’ve designs a whole list of great quilt patterns made with the same ruler.
The designs are simple and clean, which means they won’t go out of style (which also means your ruler won’t be obsolete simply because no one wants the style of block it makes). The simple design also means they would look great in fresh and modern fabrics, or the old classics- so your projects could range from a baby blanket, to a bedspread for a college dorm room, to gift for the little old lady down the street all from the same tool. WOOHOO! I just get so tired of feeling like I constantly need to buy something new for every project- it’s so refreshing to know that are some product designers out there who are working through that exact concern!

I feel the same way about quilting rulers and templates. I can’t afford to buy one and just use it once, and I don’t make many quilts 🙂 I usually use my triangular grader square (patternmaking tool) to mark out my binding, but will take a look at this one too. Thanks for sharing it!

Thanks for the tip Virginia- I haven’t used a triangular grader square for binding- I will have to try it out!
