I’ve recently been talking to quite a few people who are learning to sew. Most adults I’ve talked to are intimidated to start simply because they’re worried they’re not good enough to make a real project. I’ve guided them to some great beginner projects, but the fear remains. I can’t blame them! It’s frustrating to invest time and money into picking out a bunch of sewing material, only to get half way through the project and realize you’ve done it all wrong!
I wanted to find a way to help them feel comfortable on their own sewing machines without the risk of wasting material, so I made up a few Sewing Worksheet pages. They can be printed off at home and include different shapes that a beginner can practice sewing around (you don’t even need to use thread! Your needle will punch holes and let you see how well you’ve done). Since I primarily make stuffed toy patterns, I focused the shapes around the ones you’ll need to feel comfortable sewing to get started on some simple softies.
The worksheets can be downloaded for free here. They’re great for any beginner sewist- adult and kid alike! (they’d make a great activity to do with your grand kids or a great lesson for homeschooling!) I hope they help you gain enough confidence with your sewing machine to get started on a real project!

Hi Jessica, These look fabulous. I am just about to embark on the enjoyable yet rocky ground of teaching my 13 yr old dd to sew, machine and hand. These are EXACTLY what we need to start our journey.
Hoping you have had a good day.
All the best
