Materials Needed
To make these miniature felt roses, you’ll need a few supplies, most of which you probably already have on hand if you’re a crafter. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Felt in your desired colors (I prefer wool or bamboo felt)
- Sharp Scissors
- Glue gun
- Small paintbrush, chopstick, toothpick or pair of hemastats (Anything to help you hold little pieces in place without burning your finger.)
Now that you have your materials gathered, let’s move on to the first step: cutting the felt.,
Cutting the Mini Felt Roses
Now that you have your materials gathered, it’s time to start creating those beautiful felt roses. The first step in the process is to carefully cut your felt. You’ll want to use a pair of sharp scissors.
The shapes of these roses are simple. The flowers themselves are made of a simple circle. I cut mine about 1/2″ in diameter, but you could cut bigger or smaller depending on your project. For my fence, I probably cut around 20-30 circles out of light pink felt.
Next, we’ll cut the leaves. You’ll cut a small oval with a point on each end. (That shape will make 2 leaves.) You’ll want to cut a LOT of these to cover your base. I used a light, mint green felt.
After cutting out all of your pieces, you’re ready to move on to the next steps and start assembling your roses.
Adding the Leaves
It’s time to add the leaves. Start with one leaf shape, add a dot of glue in the center and fold it in half length wise. Repeat the process over and over and over and over. It’s a lot of leaves!
Once the leaves are all folded, you can attach them to your project. I liked to use a pair of hemastats to place them. Some of the leaves I left straight, and sometimes I’d fold the two leaves together before gluing down. Glue your leaves until your project is as covered as you’d like.
With the leaves securely attached, you can now move on to shaping your flowers.
Shaping the Flowers
Now it’s time to add the roses. They are simple to make, just add a dot of hot glue to the center of a circle and bunch it up. Then glue the flower in amongst the leaves you secured in the previous step.
Add as many roses as you’d like- a couple can go a long way, or you can go all out and cover the area in color.
With a few simple steps, you have created beautiful, realistic miniature felt roses that you can use for a variety of DIY projects.,
