Through the years, as I’ve tried to find ways to remember Christ during the Christmas season I’ve felt like I’ve had a lot of success with remembering Him during the season of Christmas, but then on Christmas day it all goes downhill. With all the presents and food and family it seems there just aren’t very many fun options. (I know we could all sit and read scriptures or something, but I hate to make The Spiritual Part of the Day=The Boring Part of the Day. )
So far, our Christmas Box idea has given us the most success. Taking our cue from the scripture in Matt 25:40, (Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.) we spend an evening or two in December helping someone in need. Sometimes we deliver gifts to a family, sometimes we spend an evening with someone who would otherwise be alone, sometimes we just add a couple extra people to our list for neighbor gifts. It seems like the needs we’ve found are different every year. When we’re done, we write what we did, seal the note in an envelope and place the envelope in the Christmas Box under the tree.
On Christmas morning, after all the presents are opened the Christmas Box remains. As it sits there, it helps us remember the gift we gave to Him whose day it really is. It’s pretty simple, and is certainly not world changing. But I just love how it helps me remember Him on Christmas Day!
