Beehive House at Christmas Time

January 23, 2013

Watercolor a building step by step 5

I love old, traditional buildings!  I had a lot of fun going up to Salt Lake City and taking pictures of the historic architecture there.  This painting is of the Beehive House all dressed up for the holidays.  I still feel like my painting skills leave a lot to be desired (this isn’t nearly as good as the one I painted in my head!) but it was fun to make all the same.

As always, I drew out my picture with pencil and start with a yellow glaze, then blue then red.  On this painting I tried some glazes with a couple different colors.

…still building up glazes…

And finally, trying to work out some better light/dark contrasts.  Still not sure if I love it, but there it is 🙂
